How do you tell a fourth year student that s/he will not be graduating in the spring? How can you explain to a student that despite his/her best efforts it still will not be enough to pass your class? What do you do when a student is persistent about a grade change at the end of the semester? This workshop is designed to discuss how to initiate difficult conversations with students that reflects appreciative advising and compassionate mentoring.

Learning Outcomes:
• Discuss practices for diffusing disruptive behavior in the classroom.
• Learn strategies for engaging and re-energizing unmotivated students
• Discuss the concept of "grade-bullying" and determine the best method for negotiating strategies for dealing with students and their grades
